North Palm Beach is a canal town, and canals change the maintenance

The Village of North Palm Beach is built on the north end of Lake Worth Lagoon and the finger canals cut off it, with Little Lake Worth and the North Palm Beach Waterway carrying most of the residential dockage. ZIP 33408 covers the village and neighboring Juno Beach.

Canal water is warm, brackish and slow-moving. Two things follow from that. First, growth: lower units, trim rams and transducers in a low-flow canal foul faster than the same hardware in a marina basin with tidal flush, and a fouled gearcase runs hotter and shifts worse. Second, lift habits. A large share of North Palm Beach boats live on a lift, out of the water between trips, which prevents growth but dries and takes a set in the water pump impeller. Lift-kept boats routinely need a water pump and impeller at $250–$450 well before their hour meter says they should.

Neither shows up as a warning light. Both show up as an overheat alarm three miles offshore.

Lake Worth Inlet is deep — which moves the wear somewhere else

North Palm Beach boats run south down the lagoon and out Lake Worth Inlet at Riviera Beach: jettied, dredged, deep, and used by ship traffic into the Port of Palm Beach. Unlike the sand inlets to the north and south, it does not routinely bend skegs or feed grit into water pumps.

What it does is put a long, current-swept, no-wake transit between your dock and the ocean. Boats accumulate idle hours faster than running hours. That fouls plugs, loads carbon on four-stroke valves, and hides a lazy thermostat until the first wide-open run. The hour meter also overstates real work and understates idle abuse — which is why our dockside diagnostic reads ECU data rather than the dash gauge.

Boats crossing to the Bahamas out of this inlet are a category of their own. A 40-point pre-trip inspection at $195 per vessel with a written go/no-go is the cheapest insurance on a Gulf Stream crossing.

The response commitment and the record

North Palm Beach is Tier 1: a same-day response window, backed by the written commitment that a technician is at the boat within 24 hours or the trip fee is waived. Monday–Saturday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with weekend emergency coverage by text to 561-312-7308.

Every job ends with a photo-documented digital service record — engine hours from the ECU, part numbers, torque specs, before-and-after photos — emailed and texted before we leave the dock. One technician,, does every job, so the record is one continuous history rather than a folder of unrelated invoices. See how it works.

The membership tiers: Logbook $39/month or $399/year; Standard $79/month or $899/year, which includes the 100-hour service, a mid-year inspection, the diagnostic waived and 10% off parts and labor; Premium $129/month or $1,499/year with quarterly inspections, weekend and after-hours response, an annual detail and a sea-trial check. Additional engine +$39/month. Memberships transfer to the next owner when the boat sells.

Questions North Palm Beach owners ask

Do you work on boats at private docks in North Palm Beach? Yes — canal docks and lifts are the majority of our work in the village. We need access to the dock and, in gated communities, whatever pass or notification the association requires; tell us the procedure when you book. Boats on a lift must be lowered into the water for anything involving the cooling system, impeller verification or a sea trial.

How fast can you get to North Palm Beach? North Palm Beach is Tier 1 with a same-day response window. The written guarantee is a technician at the boat within 24 hours or the trip fee is waived. Call or text 561-312-7308, Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Weekend emergencies are covered by text — boats break on Sunday more often than Wednesday.

Do you charge more to come to North Palm Beach? No. Prices are published and flat and do not vary by city, neighborhood or marina. A 100-hour service with cooling on a 200 HP outboard is $949 per engine at Old Port Cove, at a canal dock off Little Lake Worth, and in Boca Raton. Nothing on the invoice is a travel charge.

Do you need marina approval to work at Old Port Cove or Safe Harbor North Palm Beach? We work on boats kept at both. We do not claim vendor approval or preferred-vendor status at any facility. What you arrange is a gate pass or a heads-up to the dockmaster; what we handle is the paperwork — we carry marine liability insurance documentation and send a certificate of insurance to the dockmaster whenever one is asked for.

My boat lives on a lift and barely gets used. What actually needs doing? The impeller, first. A rubber impeller that sits dry takes a set and loses its pumping efficiency regardless of hour meter reading. After that: fuel that has been sitting, battery condition, and the lower unit seals, which we pressure test before and after. A pre-trip inspection at $195 per vessel with a written go/no-go tells you which of those your boat needs before you spend on all three.

Can you handle a NMEA network fault or is that an electronics shop? We diagnose marine electrical faults including voltage drop, grounds and NMEA bus problems at $175–$250 for the first hour. If the fault turns out to be inside a chartplotter or a black-box sonar module, that is an electronics specialist's job and we will say so rather than bill hours against it.
