The Boca Raton Inlet limits the boat before it limits the engine
The Boca Raton Inlet is narrow, shoals persistently and carries a bascule bridge at Camino Real across it. It is not a reliable all-conditions ocean access, and plenty of Boca boats simply cannot or will not use it — owners run north to the Boynton Inlet or south to Hillsboro Inlet in Broward instead, adding a long Intracoastal transit either way.
That produces two distinct populations with two distinct failure lists. The boats that do run the Boca cut take shallow, sandy-inlet damage: bent skegs, spun hubs, nicked seals and grit through the water pump. Lower unit seal kits are $350–$600 per engine pressure tested before and after, full rebuilds $800–$2,500, and water pump and impeller work is $250–$450 with OEM impeller and housing.
The boats that avoid the cut instead pile up idle hours on the ICW run to another inlet — fouled plugs, carbon on valves, a thermostat that hides until the throttles finally go down.
Lake Boca is a sandbar with engines idling in it
Lake Boca Raton, the basin just inside the inlet, is one of the busiest weekend anchorages in south Palm Beach County. Boats raft up in shallow water with sand moving under them for hours at a time, engines trimmed and periodically started.
That is a water pump problem dressed up as a social occasion. Sand drawn through a raw-water pickup scores the housing and the wear plate, and an impeller alone in a scored housing fails again within a season.
It is also a battery problem. Hours of stereo, lights and a house load on a boat that is not charging, followed by a start attempt at dusk, is the second-most-common assistance call nationally — 9% of BoatUS calls are a dead battery. Battery and charging service is $150–$300 in labor with the battery extra, and the charging side is where the real fault usually is.
Where Boca Raton boats are kept — and what a mobile mechanic changes
Boca Raton is a private-dock city more than a marina city. The dockage that matters here is behind waterfront homes: the Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club canals, the ICW-front and canal-front homes between Palmetto Park Road and the inlet, and lift-kept boats throughout 33432 and 33487.
| Location | Detail | Typical work |
|---|---|---|
| Private docks and lifts, 33432 and 33487 | ICW and canal-front residential dockage | Impellers, seal kits, scheduled service, electrical |
| Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club canals | Gated waterfront community with residential dockage | Twin-engine scheduled maintenance, lift-kept boats |
| Silver Palm Park ramp, at the Palmetto Park Road bridge | Public boat ramp on the ICW | Trailer boats, ramp-day breakdowns |
| Lake Boca and inlet-area dockage | Weekend-use boats, batteries and charging | |
| Marina Delray | 78 wet slips, Delray Beach, just north | Boats owned in Boca, kept north |
With no shop and no storefront, the truck comes to the dock behind your house. "Near me" for a mobile service means the boat does not move at all. How it works explains what happens from the first call.
What it costs in Boca Raton — the same as everywhere else

Questions Boca Raton owners ask
How fast can you get to Boca Raton? Boca Raton is a Tier 2 city with a next-day response window, inside the written guarantee that a technician is at the boat within 24 hours or the trip fee is waived. It is the southern edge of the service territory, so booking ahead produces a tighter arrival window than a same-morning call. Call or text 561-312-7308, Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Do you charge more to come to Boca Raton? No. Pricing is flat and published and does not vary by city, distance or neighborhood. A 100-hour service on a 250 HP outboard is $1,089 per engine in Boca Raton and $1,089 in Jupiter, 45 miles north. There is no mileage charge, no fuel surcharge and no travel line on the invoice.
Do you work on boats at private docks in Boca Raton? Yes — private docks and lifts are the majority of our Boca Raton work, including gated communities such as Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club. We need dock access and whatever gate pass or association notification applies; tell us the procedure when you book. Lift-kept boats must be in the water for cooling work, impeller verification or a sea trial.
Why have I replaced two impellers in two seasons? Almost certainly because the housing was not replaced with them. Lake Boca anchoring and the Boca inlet both put sand through the raw-water pickup, and sand scores the pump housing and wear plate. A new impeller in a scored housing loses its seal quickly. Our $250–$450 price includes the OEM housing, and we photograph the old parts so the wear is visible rather than asserted.
Is my boat too far south for you? Boca Raton is inside the territory — the southern boundary of it. Anything south of the Palm Beach County line, including Deerfield Beach and Hillsboro Inlet, is outside what we cover. We will tell you that on the phone rather than after taking a booking, and there is no price penalty for being at the far end of the area we do serve.
Can you inspect a boat I am about to buy in Boca Raton? Yes. Pre-purchase inspection is from $275 for vessels to 40 ft and covers ECU engine hours, compression and a sea trial. The ECU hours matter most — they routinely disagree with what the dash gauge and the listing say. You receive the same photo-documented written record we produce on any repair.
